Habit 6: Eat Only at Table in Dining Area

Starting today, do your best to eat only when you can be sitting at a table in a designated dining area.  So, this would be at your dining table, at a cafeteria, on a picnic bench, in a restaurant, etc.  Of course, there will be some times when this isn’t feasible.  Your first priority should be making sure you have a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  However, try your best to plan so that you have a proper dining area and table.

Great advice. I have eaten on a corner of my desk or on my bed (shame!) most of my life. Now I do my best (starting 3 months ago) to by that same Habit #6…

I’m curious what the reason behind this is…

The reason is to formalize and separate eating from other activities. This facilitates mindfulness and structure in our eating. It forces you to consider whether you are really hungry. By confining eating to established eating places, you will stop grazing during the day. It also helps you to take more time to enjoy your food when you do eat.

This seems like a smart ideal.
