Integration of 5/5 work system with autofocus

I love autofocus as a task management, motivation system.  I love the simplicity, that it is such a low threshold for getting tasks into the system.  It helps me get straight to work with minimal planning and it provides intrinsic motivation.

However, there is one area in which it falls down (for me.) I usually have a few very important, highest priority tasks, often which provoke a lot of anxiety and avoidance behavior on my part (a.k.a. procrastination).  I find that with autofocus I don’t necessary get myself to spend the time I need to on these projects.  However, by integrating it with the 5/5 work system, I’ve got a system that helps me get a handle on the hardest tasks but leverages the simplicity and smartness of autofocus to handle the plethora of other todos.  The 5 minute priority period forces me to work on the most important tasks first, but only committing to five minutes at a time reduces my resistance to getting started.  I use autofocus to manage my 5 minute “breaks” which helps me handle all of the smaller tasks on my plate and make progress on long-term projects. Â
